  Not far from Murter you can find the Kornati National Park, the unique group of islands in the whole Mediterranean. 140  islands, islets and reefs are scattered over an area of about  300 km2. The total area of the Kornati islands is 69 km2. Since the Kornati islands are quite close to Murter, there are no significant climate differences. Average annual temperature is 15.6 C. Average temperature in January is 7.1 C and 24.1 C in August. The greatest summer temperatures reach as far as 33 C. The average sea temperature ranges from 7 C in winter to 25 C in summer. In historical documents the Kornati islands are mentioned under the following names: Crotae (in the 1st century), Grebena (in the10th cent.) Stomorinski otoci (17th cent.). The todays name Kornati is derived from the Italian name Isole Incoronate, which means crowned islands.
The Kornati National Park, an ecological oasis, was established in 1980. Untouched nature, no stores, no cars, no electricity away from urban jungle, possibility of fishing, enjoying ecologically healthy food: olive oil,  fish. All this enables an unforgettable vacation.
